Any of you that download films from Kazaa/Kazaa-Lite, a friend who lives round the corner, and is on BT Broadband got a rather nasty letter from them saying they had been contacted by an American company. In it were instructions to immediately cease all activities of a 'thieving gypsy' nature (words added for effect :D), otherwise they would take out legal proceedings against him.

The film in question was T3 : Rise of the Machines.

On the letter they had such information as IP address, kazaa username, and dates and times the data was downloaded.

I myself rarely download films, although I do download a lot of music.

Just thought I'd warn you all, I'm off to unshare all my media folders now .....

You sure?

It might be a piece of spyware connected with Kazaa that found out about his downloading antics.

Kazaa Lite is the safer option if you want to download stuff.

They don't broadcast your IP so openly like kazaa does.

Broadband doesn't even get activated in my area until Jan 2004 so I've not been downloading any movies, but I've heard of other people getting these letters (and follow ups for other movies) before and little happening. Suppose it depends on your ISP.

I'm on Telewest Broadband myself.

I already did go and see it, a fine film it is too.

I don't bother downloading films as the poor quality ruins your enjoyment, a friend lent me a pir8 copy of reloaded and it was quite frankly terrible.

I now own it on DVD anyway, for all you accusing types ..... :)

Not possible through Kazaalite - especially if you don't use a static IP (which only BTBroadband does).

Go watch the movie in the cinema anyways, its only a fiver.

deh.
