Wanting to get a better paid job, probably.

It is, basically. Just a big money making con. He said that dreams were symbolic of a deeper meaning, which, if you were to see in their true form, would shock you into waking up. The thing is, it needs a trained psycho-analyst to tell you what your dream actually meant. Hence lots of moolah for Mr Freud. And every psychoanalyst would interprett the dream differently, it's very subjective and open to interpretation, and Freud himself interpretted the same dream in different ways.

So basically, there's very little truth behind it, if any.

k. Don;t know Freud's stance on the subject, as his work seems like a load of balls, and so I've avoided it.

But that's what the symbolic dreams are too. A satiation of desires and urges that cannot be sated in waking.
