I mean why can't we be more powerful or immortal like the elves in Lord of the Rings? You might think this is stupid because you have people in the world think for you. Think for yourselve once in a while.

Do you understand evolution? It's survival of the fittest, not survival of the lowest common denominator.
We're evolving all the time. Amusingly, whatever is most succesful in humanity will be the traits that survive. So, sitting at home producing a factory line of poorly educated offspring beleiving that illusionists are real magicians and panting for the next series of Big Brother or Pop Idol are the traits towards which humans will tend.
Well since immortal means you are free from death, we cant be immortal.
