Right, i have just gotta job, and I am thinking of getting a new pc. Now, i can either save up for a whole one form say Maxx PC, build my own, or build one of these snazzy shuttle type ones. I particulaly like the hi-fi type MSI one, however, would it be a waste of money?

What would you do?

I've got a 21" CRT in front of me and a 17" CRT behind me, which looks like a watch display in comparison. If you're happy with your 17" CRT perhaps you don't have room for a bigger monitor(?) Does it intimidate you or something?

I'd probably be ok with just a 17".

19" is a tad large in my opinion.

Erm.

I use a 17" CRT and if I were to buy a new one it would still be a 17" CRT.

Get a better monitor, at least 19" CRT. If necessary, downgrade other parts to make the money up. The screen is the most important part of any PC.

Building a PC is like Lego + Screwdriver with a bit of common sense. Its a doddle - But if this is your 'first ever build' i'd probably stick with a tower style case. Shuttles are nice but quite crampt to work with + they are pretty expensive little buggers :)

I'm just buying the parts for my system at the moment - Its spec will be: -
AMD Athlon XP 2400+ CPU. 266FSB
Phillips 40 x 30 x 52 CDRW drive
512mb of Crucial DDR2700 RAM (2*256) (will be downgraded to run at DDR2100)
Asus A7N8X N-FORCE2 Motherboard. (not the deluxe version)
Coolermaster Aero 7 Lite - (HUGE fan - but wicked :P)
Sapphire Radeon 9600PRO
80GB Maxtor Hard Drive
Vantec Stealth 120mm case fan
Cheap Keyboard
Some Optical Mouse
17" CRT monitor

Just a little unsure about the case at the moment - Whats peoples opinions on this one?

I take it you go to LAN parties. I wouldn't fancy carrying a 12kg case around. I have heard that the advantages of alu over steel (beside weight) are debatable. Steel does take longer to heat up tho.

If you mean the chieftec cases SR are selling, then you won't find a significantly better case anywhere.
