Quoted from the BBC news page:

"Hundreds of people are facing fines of up to $150,000 (£100,000) for sharing music files without permission.
The US music industry has started legal action, with many observers accusing the recording industry of being heavy-handed.

Exactly 261 people received lawsuits on Monday on behalf of Universal Music Group, BMG, EMI, Sony Music and Warner Music, with more to follow.

Should people be fined for downloading music? Is the music industry being heavy-handed?"

Discuss.

Well couldnt certian coding be used to block distribution of copyrighted files then?

I am certain that it could be done.

If we can put a man on the moon we can do this!

no cos the actual legal side is to allow the distribution of music by unsigned acts. Like that star wars boy, quality material can be spread on the web to reach people en masse

Kazaa should simply cuy off the audio distribution section.

Images and files should still be traded because they are very rarely copyrighted but it saves people unwittingly getting fined!

Yeah, but the people who do p2p stuff generally have gigabytes of music files.

I'll give you Chuggy's number, ask him what he's downloaded...

If everyone turned off file sharing, Kazaa would be useless.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
