Inspired by the 2001 topic:

2000 was a terrible year. To begin, many big names dropped out. First was SNK, creators of the NeoGeoPocketColour and great games like metal slug. Despite these games, people shunned the NGPC, and SNK were forced into retreat back to Japan.

Then Sega. After having made the best games for years (Shenmue, Jet Set, Crazy Taxi etc) their ecconomics went head first, and ended in the company being split up- inevitably a ploy towards becoming 3rd party only.

Furthermore, with the decline of the N64 (ok, there were great games... but not many!), and even the PSX as gamers waited for the PS2, what did we get? Poor, rushed games on a system that had even more bugs than Windows. Now playststion fans may complaim, but when you compare this to Sega's DC launch where the games were excellent, and the only problem was the slow internet connection at first, this was a dissaster!

Finally, gamers were told they had to wait until Winter for the first truelly triple A title on the PS2- The bouncer. And that is poosibly the poorest game ever.

On another note, many publishers saw a fall in revenue as gamers waited for the new consoles, and as a results have held their best games for this year!

2000 was a good year all round, it weren't too bad, yeah we got a fair share of good games back then, PD, Zelda 2, Shenmue, MSR, the list could go on!
Also we got first looks at the future consoles to come out!
First Nintendo reveal the dolphin is in fact the GameCube, and that the X-Box wouldn't be called the MS-Box at least we got to see what they are capable of, plus the PS2 came out at last, the only hugely anticipated next gen machine to be released in 2000.
For all those Sega Fans 2000 was a good year for them, the DC sold more consoles that any other in the UK.
So be happy, i don't expect 2001 to have many big games to come out but look out for the GBA, GC, and X-Box, they are the consoles that are the next part of Nintendo and Microsoft's future.

I dont know I mean we had PerfectDark and Zelda2 on the N64, WWF Smackdown2 and Driver2 on the Playstation and Shenmue on the Dreamcast. So all in all 2000 wasnt really that bad, better than yould expect for a year when many of us have been making the transition from the old consoles to more powerful systems such as Dreamcast and Playstation2!
