That's what some people seem worried about at this precise moment.
Let me re-assure you, as a customer of Special Reserves, I feel extremely confident that the forums will not be closed down permanently.
As Snuggly said, Security hasn't actually been anything to worry about from SR's side for the way the accounts were stolen was not to do with hacking.
From a business point of view, many MANY non-customers become customers after joining the boards (from seeing the Gameaday competition for the reviews) and the proceed to buy products through the website.
If it wasn't for these forums (and the old GAD competitions) I probably wouldn't have been a continuous member for the 5+ years I've been registered as a paying customer.
Sure, I'd probably buy the odd item, but wouldn't have bothered with membership, nor would I have stuck to UKgames.com to buy stuff to save the price of a pint on a game.
If it does happen, I'd be very suprised. It wouldn't be beneficial to anyone, except to those who want to cause mayhem for a virtual trophy or a claim to ill-fame.

I've seen the forums have better days. But one other thing to consider, even before the end of the posting GAD a lot of the old timers were not on as much. Had more of them stuck around then there would still be a bit more life.
Having seperate Fogs is now pretty much redundant, as are both of them nearly. However there does need to be some sort of game forum beyond the platform specific ones, and a Chat forum is a good idea for grouping all the rubbish that doesn't fit anywhere else together.
To bring back a bit more life I would combine the Fogs once more (remember when it was Fog and Mist?) and reintroduce GAD. Having three was too many to be practical, but two is probably sustainable.
I'm not leaving these forums. Whilst they are not as good as they used to be, I do still like them more than any other forum I am on, and there is quite a few. Shaneo did make one valid point tonight, we are all pretty nasty to each other. And newbies. The more that join the better.

Truly the forums have seen better days, but i dont think its time to cry doom just yet. The forums are still probably one of SR's best ways of attracting new customers, and as such abandoning them would be a bit strange to me.
Its just coincidence that a few strange events have befell the forums within a relatively short space of time. In the end the forums are still a safe and secure place to be, and long may it continue.

Argh - just realised - The title isn't about me leaving - it's about the worries people have about the forums 'closing'.

Yea and when FOG was not split..
After the old GAD competitions ended, it was already turning into a non gaming chat forum even with its Future of Gaming name CLEARLY shown now snuggly and Sr decide to make a seperate forum for those msn chat like threads.. which was happening to FOG chat after the old GAD competitions finished it is dieing.

Sure the forums are crap now, and i have considered leaving, but they are not closing down, i never even thought that anyone was thinking that they might.
