Jolly old me watched a documentary about the Jones Town massacre on history last night. Rev Jimmie Jones set up an island prison colony that he disguised as a religion to get people to come there. If they tried to leave they were shot at or murdered. A few reporters went there with a governor and a TV crew to investigate the claims. Jones denied they were holding people at the island, but as the crew left people were desperately trying to get on their plane. Then men with guns came and shot most of them dead, including the governor and reporters - all this was caught on film. After that, Rev. Jones held a mass for nearly 1000 people, where he handed out drinks laced with cyanide - they all died in the biggest mass suicide ever. Parents killed their children, then themselves. The helicopter footage of the bodies, all lying in a huge multi-coloured pile shows the huge amount of death involved. Really f**ked up.
