"Applicants would sit an exam at the end of the course, likely to be on a similar level to a driving test, Prof Crick told BBC Radio 4's Today programme"

Good idea. Driving around London for example would help to develop any immigrants language skills

"fack off you nonce, you shouldn't be on the road!"

"fack off yourself tw@t".

"no you fack off!"

"you c*BEEP*nt"

Immigrant to instructor/examiner "and I thought they were hostile in Afghanistan".

Question is, how many current British Nationals could pass the test ? It is a stupid idea.

I'm ashamed to say that I actually found myself laughing at something that I happened to catch heppening on Pap Idol the other week. That ginger kid who had been to a previous audition, but turned up at another claiming to be his own twin. But they already knew, so they told him if he could bring his "twin" along for a duet, then they would let him through. So this stupid kid was pretending to ring his "twin" on his phone, and generally running about looking like he shat himself. He even managed to get someone to come to the audition, but he was even less of a twin than Danny DeVito and Arnult in that film - "Twins". Stupid ginger.

Seems to be a British Culture test would involve:

Confusing actors from Eastenders with the character name
Talking about Big Brother
Not celebrating St George's Day
Being hateful towards immigrants
Having stupid, surly children
Not bothering to vote
Going abroad and demanding "me fakkin' chips not this muck"
Moaning about everything yet doing nothing to change
Caring more about Pop Idol than who runs the country

Branding.

a large "PHILISTINE" across both cheeks (facial) for not attending, or failing, should generate interst in 'british culture'.

I think all Immigrants should have to attend the lessons, and if they don't pass then fair enough no passpart, no vote. But if they don't attend....

do something bad.... that I can't think of.

This wasn't a well thought out reply.

That's one of the worst ideas I've ever seen.

I'd like to see a copy of this test.

I agree with IB.

Furthermore from an english perspective our "culture" in England is such that we all celebrate St Patrick's day but do nothing for St George's day. Any relgious celebration is frowned upon if it is deemed "offensive" to the minority population's religions (many of which openly detest us infidels), and if anyone goes to watch England a sporting event they fly the Union Jack and not the Enlgish flag. You know that one with the Red Cross on it on a whire background? And in any case flying any of these flags in our own country is deemed as racist.

So what sort of test will it be?
