The celebrity diet that is spread across the tabloids like butter on toast is "The Atkins Diet". Many of you will have heard of it but have any one you given it a go? It apparently either works wonders or makes you pretty ill due to different body types. It is simply avoiding eating carbohydrates, seems simple but I assume it is harder than it sounds.

Anyway share your views on it here.

You should lose more fat than muscle with it... the theory being that depriving the body of sufficient carbs will force it to break down fats as they're a stored energy source.

I fear that one day I may have to eat my words.

I HATE diets, and anything to do with it. But then, I've got a bee in my bonnet about eating disorders, and I tend to view dieting as the first step on the road towards the fabled lands of anorexia, bulimia, and body dismorphia...

Very very hard for me 5 hours after waking i felt tired and had a headache! I'm disfunctional without carbohydrate. I tried eating normally (healthy balance) during day but cutting out on potatoes/pasta for tea but allowed meat and veg and found that worked really well didn't faint either!

The Atkins diet can actually work in the short term. However it is a very unhealthy diet in the long term, as most research has shown that lots of fruit and veg and low fat is a much healthier option to high fat and low fruit and veg.

A sensible long term solution which takes a little self-discipline.

And you expect this country to go for it ?

When they could take an easy crash diet eating high fat (for the Atkins at least) food, requiring no extra physical effort.

Then again, I have to admit that whenever I'm not training for basketball I find it incredibly difficult to build up the motivation to exercise for execrise's sake.
Although you could argue exercise for health benefits should be motivation in itself.

Dieting sucks, why any sane reasonably formed male would give up full flavoured full fat delights in favour of pretencious diet variants which come laden with even more chemicals... is quite beyond me.

The whole atkins diet thing has been blown out of proportion, thanks a new D-list celeb being paid to grace the front cover of cheesy mags every week to sing the praises of Mr Atkins diet.

As Borat has pointed out below, exercise and sensible eating habits work for most people. Exercise doesnt have to mean taking up a membership with the local gym, simply not using one's car now then is enough exercise for most.

I think people do it to copycat celebrities and expect to suddenly shed 5 stone and keep it off by going on a diet for a week. It isn't a diet you can keep because carbs are a an important source of energy and you'd eventually go into a coma from exhaustion. However for a few weeks you can do it, lose some weight and then put it back on when you eat normally again.

Its silly really!
