I watched this earlier and it's actually OK. Not particularly scary, but still a well told story. Haven't seen the Japanese original (which I've heard is a lot better), so I haven't got anything to compare it to, but I quite liked it. Not the sort of film I'd rush out and buy, but I don't regret seeing it once and I'll probably go and watch the Japanese version now. Kinda like an evil version of Pay It Forward.

Is the Japanese version of the movie out on general release or something you would have to get imported? I would quite like to see the original.

My theory is that as it has been years since Samara's 'death', she has aged, being of paranormal existence. And so, she would have an older sounding voice.

It wasn't too bad. I agree, if you went to watch this in the mood "this is going to be really scary" then you'll be disapointed.

It wasn't, and although it left many stones unturned and unexplained (as to who rang you was one - would have been better if it was a female childs voice) it was a thinker.

Thought it started off slowly, gained speed towards the end and then had a good twist

I've not seen the original to compare, but The Ring is the only film to ever freak me out.

And even though Dark Mark may not admit it, he was too scared to watch the "Don't Watch This" section of the DVD - because of the uncertainty as to what would appear.

It's one of my favourite films, mainly because of the way it spooked me. It may not have lots of stupid, unscarey gore as seen in teen films that aren't even fit to be classed as 'Horror' such as the Scream series and "I know what you did last summer", but it has the psychological effects, which may not be perfect, but did it for me.

This film scared the crap out of me. Second scariest thing I've seen since Blair With Project.

Feel free to mock.

Yup.
Original was terrible.

"I shall answer this phone, even though it means certain death"
"I'm going to stand at the bottom of a well, where no doubt spooky things will happen...oh ,they didn't."

Not having seen the new version, I can'y say which is better. But the original was, and is, crap. And not scary. In the slightest.

"Oooh, a phone is ringing."
"If you pick it up, you die."

*picks up phone*

"You will die."
"Oh no, I'm going to die!"

etc.
