I have a simple rule. If they're female you look and smile, if they're male you dont look and you try your hardest to look like they wouldn't want to cause you any trouble.
I look too far into things :P
Keep going out without my glasses on too, which means I can't see if people are looking in my direction or not (yes my eyes are bad at the mo), so it makes it ten times worse ...

I guess im just a care-free person most of the time though that doesn't care what other people think.
Not that it makes much diff to you :) Just being nosey ...
I guess it's a matter of consciousness, whether you notice or you're concentrating on anything else. I guess it happens most in huge crowds, when there's not much visible other than other people.
