I'd go with Dell as they were rated the best when I last checked but they are a bit pricey.

Don't by a Sony laptop. If it goes wrong the only place that can fix them is Sony (due to them not selling the spare parts), so they can charge what they like. There are a couple of other companies that do that but I can't remeber them :(
