And if you ask me, that ref must've had a bet on Michael Owen scoring from the penalty-spot in that game, or something - why else would he order such a rediculous retake that made absolutely no sense?!?
Yes, Cudicini came off his line.
But Michael Owen put the ball wide, anyway!
And even if it had been the other side of the post, Cudicini couldn't have possibly saved it unless he had Inspector Gadget's legs, or something!
He dived completely the wrong-way, for crying out loud!!
Referees are only getting worse!
And yet, the FA are still doing NOTHING about it!
I'm surprised to see how much Frank Lampard has improved at Stamford Bridge, though. Aside from Damien Duff, I'd have to say he was one of Chelsea's best players on the pitch, that day.
I laughed when he was first called up to the senior England squad just because I didn't think he was good enough.
But, if he can play like he did on Sunday on a regular-basis, he'll be a regular in Eriksson's first-team in no-time!
They were outraged by him not picking Baros and playing the likes of Cherou, Biscan and Traore.
I can see their point......
> To be honest chelsea didnt play superbly.
this is fairly true, there were moments of genius and fast ball speed, but there was obviously room for improvement, if and i stress IF. This is an indication of hoiw much they have gelled this will be very exciting, but as it is you can't really complain about 3 points away from home against a top five side first day of the season! i'm happy enough, especially that veron scored just to make fergie look stupid, and JFH scored and that may kickstart him.
We had all the play in the first half which, admitedly, we should have made something from; and Chelsea did well to convert one of 2 first-half chances.
Second-half was more of the same, but it wasn't so easy to attack a Chelsea team who defended in numbers to hold the lead.
The penalty should NOT have been retaken, moreso for the fact that the linesman didn't see the throw, but saw that.
Once again, Liverpool are the victims of their own downfall.
One good point I can take from the game: I'd rather we played good, and showed passion until the end, than shown a half-arsed performance and get played off the pitch. Also, we only took 6 points from 12 at the start of last season, so we can still rectify this one; and I'd rather we got this type of match out the way at the start, as opposed to meeting Chelsea when they're in their stride.
Well done Chelsea. Unlucky Liverpool.
