I never thought i'd be able to say this but chelsea have easily the strongest squad in the league. no other team can boast the sheer level of depth and strength chelsea have accross the whole field. We may not win the league and other teams may have players who are better in some positions but chelsea are unbeatable for the stremngth of their squad now, and the average age is a dream come true its 23-24 apparently.

GK:

Cudicini (best in the league)

Bridge
Terry
Gallas
Melchiot/johnson

Duff
Lampard
Veron
Geremi

Hasselbaink
Gudjohnsen

Second xi

Macho (more than likely martyn in a few days)
Babayaro
Desailly
Huth
Melchiot/johnson
Zenden
Joe Cole
Petit
Gronkjaer
Forssell
Carlton cole

No other team could field such depth, We actually have a damn good shot at europe with a squad like that. Easily the best defence+keeper in the league.

Ok arsenal may just have an edge on us in the midfield for the mo. And the main strikers at united and arsenal are a bit more prolific at the moment, we may not win the league but i am extremely impressed at the sheer strength and versatility of our SQUAD. That second team would probably finish top 6.

Chelsea could do very well in Europe and it would be good to see a English team win.

Chelsea are about as English as the Eiffel Tower =D

And Ashley, get your head out the clouds mate ;) Chelsea haven't got the best squad in the League; that accolade can easily go between 4 or 5 teams.

as much as i dispise chelsea at the moment it is true, they do have a much better defence than arsenal. Arsenal have campbell and cole, two england players. Other than that Cygan wow world class (sarcasm meter explodes).

yes but the fact is I didn't disagree on this issue i just stipulated that chelsea have a better defence that arsenal a fact which is pretty blatant really. I agree chelsea need either hasselbaink to start firing again or another one of the strikers to go up a few notches or a new proven scorer. But chelsea are rock solid at that back, however in the premiership midfields have been the winning factor uptil now, chelsea have probably had the strongest defence in the league for about 6 years now since Desailly and lebouf where the dream partnership, ferrer was a top right back and le sauz was young, yet this didn't gain us success, hopefully with a stronger midfield our chances now will be improved.

Again we are talking about defence not keepers, we will see which conceeds the most goals next season, with the right keeper Arsenal will do better than Chelsea next term. There was only 4 goals between them last year with that Aging Donkey Seaman between the sticks. Of course as I mentioned earlier Utd have a good defence.

Of course Championships are built on defence but if you are not knocking them in the other end.

Only time will tell but I would not the building a bigger trophy room at the bridge for a few years yet.

rate arsenal's defence higher! i take back all my statements against black demon! this is possibly the most stupid statement i have read. Liverpool I might disagree, but say each to their own......but arsenal!!!!! hahahah
There defence is atrocious it is campbell, admittedly he is the other best defender in the league (paired with gallas), but the rest is awful, everyone is agreed that keown has lost it, most people don't rate lauren and he isn't overly popular with the majority of arsenal fans. cole is solid. they have a keeper with a dubious record who isn't cudicini, and cygan is ryman league standard. I'm afraid their defence is there midfield, it is that damn good that it saves the defence, viera makes up for the deficiency.

Hyppia had a good season, henchoz failed to live up to the previous season, riise is the best left back in the world, carragher is poor.

easily the best defence

Squad strength dosn't mean much.
It is how players play as a team and I have doubts as to how well they can perform together and if the old squad rotation and too many players fighting for first team football could cause them troubles once again.

Should be interesting though when the season starts to see how they perform.

I am sorry but you are having a laugh, Chelsea have bought a few good players, but they are not great players, Joe Cole has a lot of potential but that is it.

Look at the squads at Arsenal and Man Utd and they have class proven players in the majority of positions. I agree that Cudicini is the best keeper in the country but defence I would rank Arsenal and Liverpool higher, with Man Utd at least the equal if not better.

Chelsea might win a cup, they will be out of the Champions League first group stage if they qualify, top 4 or 5 in the league. 60m spent but no one to bang the goals in

any comment you ever make from now on is valueless in my eye.

Hasselbaink has one of the most consistent scoring rates in europe! He has scored 30+ goals in a season in both spain and england in repeated seasons. He has maintained this for over 7 years! anyone who says a player with those stats is "dog poo" would be more than likely describing their own knowledge. One off season with a serious injury and early season surgery in it can harldy be described as dog poo, especially when you have five realistic first team strikers fighting for 2 players. It is pathetic to make such a judgement of the back of one season, maybe if this season is the same with increased supply it may be fair to say he is in decline but other wise that is ridiculous.
