I never thought i'd be able to say this but chelsea have easily the strongest squad in the league. no other team can boast the sheer level of depth and strength chelsea have accross the whole field. We may not win the league and other teams may have players who are better in some positions but chelsea are unbeatable for the stremngth of their squad now, and the average age is a dream come true its 23-24 apparently.

GK:

Cudicini (best in the league)

Bridge
Terry
Gallas
Melchiot/johnson

Duff
Lampard
Veron
Geremi

Hasselbaink
Gudjohnsen

Second xi

Macho (more than likely martyn in a few days)
Babayaro
Desailly
Huth
Melchiot/johnson
Zenden
Joe Cole
Petit
Gronkjaer
Forssell
Carlton cole

No other team could field such depth, We actually have a damn good shot at europe with a squad like that. Easily the best defence+keeper in the league.

Ok arsenal may just have an edge on us in the midfield for the mo. And the main strikers at united and arsenal are a bit more prolific at the moment, we may not win the league but i am extremely impressed at the sheer strength and versatility of our SQUAD. That second team would probably finish top 6.

They still haven't got a good enough strike force.

Chelsea may have four main strikers, but I can't exactly see Cole or Forssell becoming regulars, and Hasselbaink didn't exactly feature heavily for them last season because of his un-impressive form.

Although geremi has very good defensive qualities his crossing is really to good not to use him wide. Can that boy hit a cross! if you combined his crossing with gronkjaers everything else you would have the best winger in the world! Actually gronkjaer could be an interesting one for this season, he was in sensational form for the last 5 games of the season and was on good form the other day, if he sits the season running it could be very interesting, if he doesn't he may never regain his place.

Good post Ash. I'm intruiged about the starting four for Chelsea in midfield (my Fantasy Football Sun team depends upon it-Geremi is the bargain 3m man) and wonder where Veron is going to fit in and whether J Cole may end up playing behind Hasselbaink instead of Gudjohnsen.

Geremi can play down the right but he is a good defensive player and may be best placed to play alongside Lampard. Duff on the left is a given so that only leaves the right side of midfield. However Chelsea may employ a 4-2-2-2 system, where Geremi and Lampard sit behind Veron and Duff and perhaps even J Cole (similar to Man Utd's system) with one out and out forward.

I also wonder whether Johnson is going to be first choice (his pre-season form has been described as shaky) and how long it will be before Petit legs it to another club.

Let them become quality players before you include them. If they DO become quality players, then Chelsea have done extremely well as regards to English talent.

Hence the "these are the only homegrown players" statement. Joe keenan and Alexis nicolas are both chelsea bred and look quality players.
