I have a step dad, i would not class him as ever being there for me at all. He is the dad to one of my sister Stephanie so its hard to see him always being a dad to her. My mums husband now however is really nice man and ive never seen her this happy. He is great to get along with. But still it isnt my real dad.
What also hurts is when my sister Stephanie use to always say things in a heat of an arguement such as HE's MY DAD....and....AT LEAST IVE GOT A DAD, i never thought my little sis could ever get to me.
Do you think i have missed out an awful lot with not having my real dad around. Sometimes i sit and think to my self What if he was still around what would my life have been like if he was still here.

And I bet you'll be an excellent dad. Good luck.
Me and my dad have a frosty relationship. We don't hate each other or anything, we just aren't close. I don't really know why.

I wanted to ask about that but wasn't sure if your baby's dad wasn't about and that was what made you write the original post.
My brother's divorced with 2 kids (a 14 year old boy and a 12 year old girl) and both him and his ex-wife are constantly trying to p*ss each other off, always at the expense of the kids. Many's the time I've turned up at my parent's house (where my brother and his kids are staying) to find one or other of the kids upset and/or crying because of their parents. Some people don't deserve kids.
Anyway who uses "At least I've got a dad" in an argument is unsensitive, stupid and needs a good slap. Saying something that was entirely out of your control to try and prove that you're better than someone is brainless. If she says it again, how about replying "Yeah, but you don't deserve to have one"?
My girlfriend's brother-in-law died recently (her sister's husband) and has left a 30 year old son who hero-worshipped him. I know it's a cliché after someone has died but he really was a great bloke.
Another friend of mine lost his dad some years ago and, when we talk about it, his expression is something similar to "I'm glad the b*****d's dead!" But, his dad did divorce his mother (after beating her up a lot) and his sister killed herself because of it.
I'm not saying your dad was like these two (certainly NOT the second one!), just to say there are two sides to everything. But, I guess it would've been nice to be given the chance to find out. I can't imagine how you feel and I am really sorry.
