Ever since I've heard that the GBA games might cost £30 - £40 I've had my doubts about the machine.

Now we find that Mario 2 is going to be the Mario game on it. So if this is true, Nintendo are giving us a machine the power of the Snes but are releasing a Nes game on it???

And they'll expect us to pay £30+ for it too?

If so, I think that Nintendo might be getting a little bit greedy here. They could just as easily release "Mario All Stars" (A SNES compilation of nes Mario's) which would have "Mario 2" included in it. Having heard that "Mario 3's" battle game is in Mario advance it might mean that Mario Advance is "Mario All Stars" after all, but if not...

If you look at many of the games, lots of them are simply Snes conversions which is fine but I wouldn't want to fork out £30+ for a game when you could go to a second hand shop and pick it up for £10.

Both Nintendo and Sony have monopolised their own area of the games market (Consoles for Sony and Handhelds for Nintendo) and it seems they've both released backwards - compatible follow ups that eare in high demand (GBA and PS2) and neither company seem to be doing their best to compete with other machines.

They've become COMPLACENT.

Why can't we have the Snes Mario, Super Mario Land??
Are they planning to release each Mario one by one to get profits from every cartrige?
Do they expect us to pay £30 - £40 for 2D games (some we've already played before) when we can get Gamecube titles for maybe less??

Nintendo are definately working hard with the Gamecube but they seem to be simply milking the Gameboy's name (like Sony are milking the Playstation name) whn it comes to the GBA.

I might be wrong.
Mario Advance might be "Mario All Stars" after all.
The games might only cast £20 - £25.
And if so then I will definately buy one.

BUT, if Nintendo do become complacent, and start trying to rip us all off because they think we'll buy anything they release, I'll be looking at competing handhelds.

Didnt someone port Doom over to the Speccy?

GBA should be able to handle basic 3D stuff... but Nintendo seem to have gone out of their way to ensure primarily 2D play... which... even with the number of doubers out there... probably a good move for the moment...

Though I suspect that there'll be a few coders that manage to squeese a 3D title or two out for it.

GB must be the only machine still being coded with machine code huh?

From what I've seen of the GBA, It seems Nintendo are offering (in Japan at least) pretty good value for money...

I dont think Nintendo are getting lax, they seem to be trying to produce the best machine they can, despite their enourmous market share...

I'm definitly looking to get one when they finally arrive here... and although rather optimistic about the X-Box's success, I reckon the X-Boy will be a flop?

The gba will never have 3d graphics properly...

the reason is the extremely small screen... u can't get anything more complex than Mario cart running to be understandable on it.

In addition, the console is 32 bits... but that means nothing! It's all to do with processor speed. To say that the DC and PS2 are the same in terms of power because they are 128bits is absurd! The PS2 wipes the floor (let's not talk bout the programming probs!) with the DC with processor speed.

Anyway, we will no doubt see some attempts at psuedo 3d raphics that, thiough not really 3d, will look "well cool!".

I'd happily pay £100 if the games were £25 or less but I expect it will be £100 with £30 games.

And Edgy...

YOU KNEW WHAT I MEANT!

I think the key element here is cheapness... I don't mind paying £80 for the system, if I can have games for £25-£20.

Super Mario Land was on the SNES?

Wrong!

It was on the Gameboy!

I think you're thinking of Supermario World! The best selling game on the SNES apart from the DK Country series!

Nintendo won't stop trying hard with the GC because they know it'll get trounced overwise.

In the handhelds market they think they're invincible (just like another certain company think they are in the console market).

They're not being competetive enough.

If they were really working hard and being a competetive company then they would release a follow up to Super Mario Land on the Snes (don't tell me about it's sequel, that yoshi game, I know about it!).

After that they could release compilations of the old Mario games.

At they moment, they're just releasing every single on of their old games, charging £30+ for each one.

I seriously hope I'm wrong about what they are actually doing or Nintendo are going to go down in the handheld market!

All together now..1...2...3... DEFINITELY.

Sorry.

Anyway, I hope you're wrong, I've just put down my deposit on the GBA, so I really do hope it won't be the gaming handheld equivalent of PS2. I want some 3D games too on my new 32bit machine, and when I hear of all these websites (SR included) saying 'wow look at these GBA screenshots' and they only look like 2D Nes shots I really don't feel that impressed.

Ok,
Have fun...

Cool a coop mode!

Where did you hear that?

I've only heard about the 4 player link mode (which supposedly only needs one cart)

I thought that the game was just based on SMB2.

Of the screenshots I've seen, there are many differences to the original NES game.

It's not the same, it's different. Plus add the 2 player co-op mode and the 4 player multiplayer, and you've got a very impressive title on your hands.

Meanwhile Back at X-Box HQ:

Bill Gates: Bwrahahahahahahahahahahahaha

But seriously I really do think that because Nintendo have no competition with regard to the handheld market they might get a bit cocky, the results of this will only be bad. 1) They will lose focus on the Gamecube and slaes will suffer and... 2) They will loser potential customers for the GBA, people will not pay the same amount of money for a 3D Mario adventure on the Gamecube as they will a spruced up version of a 16-bit Console Classic!

I don't think that Nintendo will have steep prices, especially not in the £30 - £40 price range, I think that for some games, that have say 3 games on one cart they might have a special price but in general I think games will be about £25. But that is just my opinion!

I do think however that Mario 2 won't be the only Mario game for the GBA, I thik that over time, and maybe by release time we will se Mario All Stars, and possibly a good Yoshi game, but think about it, no-one expected Perfect Dark when we first saw the N64 and especially Hey You, Pikachu, only time will tell I don't thik that The GBA can be called a £100 rip-off with no decent games just yet, and plus the games that we have and Japan has are in a lot of cases, very different!

I think the GBA will be a big success just like the gameboy, cause you can only judge a horse by the races it has run but I still would have preferred a Blue one to go with the Blue Gamecube...:o(
