no, it was downhill.

Not really, it will sit happily at 90 on the motorway (or A road, B road etc).

Should be perfectly ok then, unless like Miserableman said, if your moving huge chunks of data around then a wired network would be better, preferably 100mb if you can.

A wireless connection is easily zippy enough for internet connection sharing, with plenty of room to expand. For file-sharing it's merely adequate. I have a 10Mb/s network at home (due to some sloppy hardware arrangement that I intend to rectify soon) and while I can play divx movies across it without any slowdown, when it comes to transfer files from machine to machine it sucks, to be blunt. If you want to regularly stream a few GB across your network, wireless is going to make you hang around.

11 and 22mb speeds are usually when the AP and the card are right next to each other :P

Once you start walking away the speeds drop, but not really that significantly, as for sharing ADSL, even if you had a 2mb pipe at home you'd probably not even max that out over the wireless connection.

When I say max out, I mean that if you had a 2mb connection then you'd still be able to maintain those speeds unless you walk out of range, even if you do that you'd just lose the connection anyway.

Transferring files should be ok on the 11mb line though for your house.

Also Mark, what exact does 11 or 22mbps equate to in new money (idiot terms ) ?

Is it megabytes per second ? if so you obviously can't download 11mbps so its nothing to worry about :)
