Who is your daddy! roman abramovich! thats who. First he did the right side of the team! now the left. Next week ........the centre!

ChelseaFC have just confirmed th signing the signing of duff a few minutes ago and confirmed bridge earlier today!:

(chelseafc.com)

Chelsea have broken our record transfer fee paid for a player and taken today’s total spending to £24 million with the signing of Republic of Ireland international Damien Duff.

The £17 million paid to Blackburn Rovers eclipses the amount received by Atletico Madrid for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink three years ago by £2 million.

Blackburn gave permission for Chelsea to talk to the 24 year-old last week and following negotiations and a medical successfully completed yesterday, a four year contract was agreed and signed this evening.

Damien, who generally played on the left wing for his former club but also performed as a central striker for his country in last summer’s World Cup, will now join Wayne Bridge in flying out to Malaysia to meet his new team-mates.

Watchout for Darren Fletcher, reminds me of Beckham when he was a Youth team player many years ago.

Fergie did the same then when he got rid of Kanchelskis because he knew Becks would be take over that position and be 'better'

Maybe he's done the same again?

Yes, roll on this season. But we need another good youth player to come through, like Rooney did in 2002/3. Milner at Leeds United seems a good bet for this, seeing that his team is going bankrupt and will probably start selling soon.

You can look at this in many ways:

A) Chelski may be trying to buy the title because they have not given much competiton to United/Arsenal in recent years, with what players they have whether it being foreigners or home grown

b) Yes Uniited have spent quite a bit on players, specially within the last two years However, Man Utd still won titles even before they started spending loads of moneys because they looked to Youth first rather than buying a whole load of foreigners to compete for the title ala Chelski and the reason for the recent purchases is to try and compete for Champions League title.

c)Chelski have not gone out to try and buy everyone - people who listen to the media and think that they are always right are silly because I don't think Chelski are that naive - it is inevitable that the media is going to speculate about Chelski buying the worlds elite since they have been fortunatly bought out by a millionaire - they have bought well so far and the players have been shrewd signings.

d) This years title race will be even better so roll on this season.

I find it hard to accept rantings on chelsea's finances from anyone who supports man utd, it is unfair to say we are upsetting the delicate balance of footballing finances or that we are attempting to buy the league when you have spent almost 100million pounds on players in the last 2 years this is 65 mill more than chelsea! or in other terms 3 times as much! (Rio 33, van nist 17, veron 28, forlan 7.5, djemba-djemba 3.5, kleberson 6 (done deal), howard 1.5, Bellion 2.5mill (when the tribunal fee is agreed), in reality having one russian sugar daddy is far more reasonable and consistent that extorting half a billion chinese people out the pennies they earnt working producing man u shirts in the sweat shops of south. MAn utd are the darlings of the press yet nobody criticises them for their outlandish spending and only when the upstarts from london spend the price of rio ferdinand on 3 established internationals and the best young right back in the country this is buying the league!

Batistuta would be a pretty poor signing i have to say, if you have seen him recently he has slowed down loads he's 35 i think hardly scores, as opposed to vieri who is 29 and had an average of pretty much a goal a game last season. Besides if weve got the money we may as well spend some to bbuild the team of the future.

This is all getting a bit rediculous now, if you ask me...

Due to his incredible welth, Abramovich is willing to spend whatever fee the club asks for - no matter how rediculously-high it is - just so he can get the men he wants for his "Chelski Dream Team".

If clubs see that at leats one-man is willing to pay around £20 - and much more - just for one, single player; how is this going to help football's financial situation, with the potential for more `Abramovich's´ to come take-over Premiership clubs??

I think we can expect to see more-and-more players going for £20m+ for years to come, yet.

And are these players really Ranieri's signings?
To me, from what I've read, it all sounds like the Russian is, quite literally, doing ALL the work...!

Still, Damien Duff should be a great addittion to Chelsea's left-side - paving the way for the "dissapointment" of Zenden to get on-his-way and out of Stamford Bridge.
Geremi should turn-out to be another great signing, also.
And I think Wayne Bridge can do well with Lampard and Terry and co. around him, even though there was nothing really that-wrong with Le Saux or Babayaro.

And if you CAN get Christian Vieri for £30m... Chelsea may-well do better than there usual 4th place-finish!

But why not go for Batistuta?
Much-less for an equally-talented goal-scorer.

And they'll easily fill the gap left by Duff.

Blackburn have already signed Amoruso and Emerton so they are hardly gonna be weaker than last season.

that is true but for every viera there are 10 grimandi, cygan, luzhny, kanu, silvinho, shaaban more money gets wasted than spent on good players, duff and dunn were guaranteed good players and they are unlikely to sign similar calibre. it has been proven on countless occassions that midtable sides have a whole sale of their staff and crash and burn as a result.

Some premiership teams are built for less than half what Blackburn have received in the transfer market this season. If you seriously believe that they can't use that cash to strengthen their squad, you're a fool.

Viera was bought for around £5 million
Cantona bought for £1 million

rah dada dada. I could give you a huge list of player bought for bargain prices that have had a massive impact on the game, but if you can't see that big money transfers aren't the only way to gain the services of quality players, it's quite frankly not worth talking to you.

no it won't, especially blackburn. 17 mill will do very little for them they will be weaker than last year even if they spend it properly.

They made 22 mill from selling dunn and duff who are there best 2 players by a country mile they can't replace them for that money especially when claudio reyna and steve mcmanaman are there proposed targets!
