There are several jobs where I live that I can do, except they're all permanent or 6 month contracts, while I'm just looking for a two month one before uni starts. There is an obvious way round this; apply for the job and then quit two months in, just before I leave - has anyone done something similar before to get a job?

The other, more common jobs (retailer in Dixons, HMV, etc.) have all been taken up by other pesky students who were quicker in handing their CV in.

It is, hence the name.

Most big retailers in my experience don't employ temps, they want people who are going to turn up for work on time and who aren't going to disappear the moment they've got them vaguelly trained. Temping work is usually things like manual labour or basic office work, like retyping letters or whatnot, where staff can be considered like lightbulbs - pull one out, plug one in etc.

Jobs for two months generally don't happen, even in retail. Your best bet is some kind of temping work, but that will be hard to come by, as all the other kids got in first.

Keep looking though :O/

So I have to basically lie and then actually quit for the job?

Depending on who it is it may look bad on your CV to have quit in two months...
