I was on Special Reserve looking at their digital cameras when I realised that all the statistics were just technical jargon to me. Because of this I went on to MSN and asked my friend to give me a hand when choosing the digi-cam for me. Unfortunately his reply was simply "Why do you do that?", "You don't need a camera", "You all ways waste money just to get the best of the best" etc etc Naturally I enquired further to find out what he meant by all of that. He started saying I always buy the best in everything like TVs even though I don't even have my own TV and that I had the best mobile phone even though my mobile phone (Motorola V.50) is terrible in comparison to everyone else. Just because I spent £120 on it and theirs were cheaper due to sliding mobile phone prices. As a matter of fact one of my friends mobiles who's is better than mine cost £140!

He went on to say that I get spoon-fed and that I'm spoiled because my parents give me £50 for nothing as an allowance of sorts. Even though I've had two paper rounds before and have worked for about a month in a restaurant but since I'm underage (15) it was just really me subbing for a wee while. What should I do to stop them thinking I'm simply a spoiled brat? I feel I'm at the age that I should be quitting paper rounds, not starting them, I'm too young to get and actual job and I'm obviously not going to throw away £50 a month. Any suggestions?

What kind of a response is that? You're hardly helping yourself. You have to show you appreciate it. Like I've said, I get £20 for nothing, which I suppose is generous (although not in comparison to some people I've seen), but I actually save up and buy things I appreciate with it. I've got a fairly large games collection (although again, nothing compared to that of some people), some good CDs etc, so I've actually got something to show for what I get.

If you just spend £50 a month on random crap it shows that money doesn't really mean a lot to you, that you take it for granted, and if I were your parent it wouldn't tell me that my money was well spent on you. The fact that you've had jobs but quit after a small amount of time backs up the case that you take it for granted.

Just tell them that you have to pay for EVERYTHING with the £50. School dinner/pack lunch, sweets, magazines and anything your friends see you with, also save up your money and buy something really cool, and then say your parents bought it, or it was in an old bank account that has been gaining interest over the years. How come you get £50 a month anyway? (I bet your SOOOOOOO spoilt.... ;D

Cubist, the fact that you don't have anything worthwile to show for your money doesn't exactly help in your case. Just because you spend it on frivolous things doesn't make you immune.

I'm too young to get a proper job and what's the point of getting a paper round for a few months before searching for a proper job? I would probably have to wait at least a month anyway to get a papaer round. Everyone keeps them in the summer as they don't have to go round in feckin snow and rain. I will get a proper job (or two if my volunteer work doesn't fall through) and then I'll get my own money. I have £50 to live on for a month. How is that being spoiled?! I don't have Gym stuff, wide screen tv, any kind of games console (I just use my bro's Game Cube but I want a PS2), I recently broke my not very good mobile (Motorola V.50) and although I go out a lot that's from my own money instead of getting all those other luxuries. The only other things I can think of that make me look richer than I am are the fact I go on holiday abroad at least every two years and to places like the Eden Project etc every year and when I'm in America and stuff my parents buy my clothes with their money not mine so they buy my Quick Silver, Vans etc stuff.

I pay for myself in every way and form.

When you all are a bit older you'll all realise how easy you've had it.

I get £20 a month, at the moment. The reason being I'm at college full time, and can't really have a job.
