Why is there a big difference in price between a 2.6 and a 2.8 processor...

That is alot of price difference for not alot os noticable speed difference...
When i first bought one i got a 2.4, i was then going to go upto a 2.8 but the price difference was just rediculasly stupid...

Yes but OEM and retail have big price differences. Even if you factor in a cooler. Because only one type will be sold in PC World etc.

Subsidy to sell more PCs.

Why isn't having different cores and more cache a good excuse?

The 2800 might be a Barton, whereas the 2600 is a T-Bred B. Maybe.

one is about £62 and the other is about £118, and there is breley any differnce, so why, its stupid...

Those two chips can't have more than £10 between them if they were both the same type (OEM/retail). I'd go for whatever you can afford.

Ok, an extra £10-15

But there is still a big difference...

One requires a cooler.

Another includes it.

That could be part of the reason.
