No, not a 'sympathy please' thread, just general views and stuff on the matter.

In America, I am not sure about England, it is illegal and you can be arrested for trying to kill yourself. I think this is wrong, you are in charge of your life and nobody else has the permission to keep you alive or kill you. I think that suicide should be legalised, it would probably prevent the number of people attempting suicice as a 'cry for help' thing.

Some people will say suicide is really pathetic and a cowards way out. I beg to differ. It takes a hell of a lot of guts to cut your own wrists or jump off a bridge. Overdosing is the quick and easy way to do it and perhaps is a bit cowardly but many other methods take a lot of guts I reckon.

Apparently 1 in 3 people between the age of 13 and 19 seriously consider suicide. A lot of them do so because of pressure from exams or parents or from bullying. I have been really depressed in life before and though about it as a plausible option to take, but I know I would never have the guts to do it. People use suicide as a threat to other people, they think that by telling people they are going to kill themselves that they will get sympathy and their lives will be fine again.

So what do you think?
Should it be legal?
It is an easy way out?

I don't like the people that commit suicide just because they are being bullied.

Why don't they fight back and kick the crap out of them. Even if they lose the fight, at least it would stop the bullying. If it doesn't do the same again. At least it's better than being dead.

Yeah, people committing suicide over exams are a bit silly.

Totally agree with you on that point, and I couldn't find the right words to say that.

Yes, suicide should be legal.
In fact, I'd make it compulsory for everyone over the age of 40.
It's time to trim the herd.

But seriously, some mystics suggest that we should "kill ourselves" daily - [i.e. kill the past, kill our distracting desires, kill our superficial thoughts, etc] - in order to reach wisdom & enlightenment.

But back to the topic: one of my friends committed suicide. Hung himself. Having seen and felt the aftershock of such a happening, I would never consider it, unless I was old and decrepid and p*ssing myself on a regular basis.

People who consider suicide because they're depressed are idiots. It gains nothing for them and causes nothing but pain and suffering for thir family.

Add to that their 'problems' that they're so depressed about are probably nothing compared to the kind of lives people live in third world countries.

Sorry for being so blunt but it's what I believe.

I can see people who lose a family member or something becoming depressed, but some of the trivial things people get so stressed about, exams for example, are stupid. Being relaxed about exams is the best way, no-one makes people stressed about exams but themselves. No-one can force you to revise, and if you fail some then you can repeat.

There's always a solution, and suicide is never the answer for 'depression'.

The only use of suicide should be if someone is in constant pain from a disease or suchlike.

Again, apologies if my bluntness offends someone.

I think it is very much a spur of the moment sort of thing.

I need to add to my point actually.

Being a Christian obviously means I am against suicide, but that doesn't mean I 'blindly follow what is in the Bible.'

If someone asks me about suicide I don't just say, "well you shouldn't because it's up to God."

I disagree with it for that reason, but for other reasons too. Just because I'm a Christian doesn't mean I don't think about it...hell, I'm not sure about abortion myself to be honest.

Personally, I'd never take suicide. I've been very depressed before, and there's always low points in life, but I don't think I'd ever even contemplate taking my own life. There's always hope, and stuff almost always gets better.

I was joking about the suicide thing Kyz!

But suicide should have an 'are you sure?' ques**tion box with it.

Like, if they s**till feel like sh*t the next month then they can do it. People rush into it and many people would probably not do it again given the chance.
