Also another question does the cathode light take up much power or generate too much heat? Also is it easy to remove if you dont actually want to use it?
Thanks for any advice, as I really want to make sure that the 350 watt PSU will cope with what I will be having. Hopefully I will be getting all the system parts in a few weeks.
> I mean would you have a few case fans or a decent CPU cooler?
You need to have a good CPU cooler to take away the heat from the CPU but ultimatly the heat is only transfered to the inside of your case. Having a few case fans will help air flow and should keep your case and CPU cooler. Have a rear fan blowing out of the case and then a front fan blowing into the case.

I will be getting a decent HSF as well as having a nice Thermaltak Xaser 3 case. HSF is one of the most important things in a system so I am doing alot of research on which one will be best.
With the Hercules Radeon 9800 Pro I wont need to bother getting a different graphics card cooler as it already comes with copper heatsinks for memory and a copper fan.

Well for me I have had a PC for a year that has been affected by heat. If I leave it with no house fan on the side I can expect the computer to crash. The temps arent even hot maybe 26c for System and then 42c for CPU. But leaving the house fan on seems to work and I can actually use my PC. So after having this for a year I am paranoid about heat and want to keep everything cool. I know that with my new computer I am not likely to get any heat problems as everything is being changed. But I do want to keep a nice cool case and CPU.
With power you do need to have a solid PSU. If your PSU cant cope with your system then you can find that your doing damage to your PC. So why not spend £70 on a good PSU instead of a cheap £25 one that could easily damage your PC if your PC is using too much power.
500w is really only for shooting at the sun.
To point out, I ran my XP1700 overclocked to run at XP2600 speeds for over a month with no fan other than the one of the CPU itself. It ran totally stable, under 50C, no problems with that whatsoever. I happen to have 4 other 80mm fans and a 120mm in my case anyway, but I just don't need them. If you're going to get that many fans, at least buy a baybus or something to be able to turn them off when you're not using them. Anyway, to reiterate - spend the money on a decent HSF and graphics cooler, rather than 1001 fans all blowing air in conflicting directions and not getting you anywhere.
Second, power supplies. You people know PCs have run for years on power supplies of 300w and below, with multiple IDE devices, fans, expansion cards and so on? We still regularly use 250w ones for builds, these things are still for sale because they're still useful. To use my PC again as an example, my 300w PSU that came with my cheapass £30 nokia-style case ran that overclocked cpu, a ti500, a delta screamer, 5 other fans, 4 expansion cards, 2 cd drives and 2 cd drives, fine. I replaced it with a 400w psu for safety when I added a cathode, neon string and an LCD.
Yes, components do need slighty more power now, but a 460/550w power supply for a normal system now is just not necessary in the majority of cases. Gives you a big buffer, and if you've got that much disposable cash, great, but it's not something to get paranoid about for the average system.
> Beats me but what would you put on 460W besides these lot?
My green cathode! duh..

Yeah I know everything needs 100 fans to keep it cool enough to use. But as I said below I am really paranoid over heat. My PC can crash when its too hot even though its not hot for a PC. I have resorted to a house fan blowing into the case. Its damn noisy and a pain. With the Summer coming the computer is going to be annoying. Good job my new computer is only going to be taking the CD writer, DVD Drive 40Gb hard disk, and floppy drive for use, and I dont think its one of those devices causing the problem. May even get a new floppy drive as there cheap and my one is old.
