Thinking of getting a DVD player for my room as the one in the PS2 is far from great.
So what I would like is information on what DVD player you own or which you would suggest getting.

Want something that is multi region, plays all the extras like VCD's and if possible the like of mpgs etc

Also looks good too and not too pricey.

Cheers

Would a Dolby Digital 5.1 system do?

Cheers Ortega! I will go into the shop and get them to do a test and see what its like. Out of the ones I have looked at so far it looks like the most perfect for me all things considered. Is the picture any clearer than the Xbox?

ÂLІÂÎR,

I just tested it out, its much quieter than the Xbox, but it does still make a slight "humming" sound. Mind you, the house is very silent at 1am...

Its quieter than your typical Video though.

mpgs are what VCDs and SVCDs use. You cant just copy a mpg as a file on to a CD, but if you add it to Nero or any other CD writing software, you can add the mpg as a VCD or SVCD.

I have a Yelo 800 which does the job perfect. Don't seem to be many places that sell them any more, but its a good player if you can find it.

Could get a RONIN P701 MIDI MULTI-REGION from SR. Only £59 and full support from VCD, plus you'd be helping SR out and getting a Reddy in to the bargain. Hurrah!

Just thought I'd mention it...

Thanks that would be great. It even has an Optical Output so I can hook it up to my Dolby Digital AMP like I currently hook it up to my Xbox. The Xbox is just too loud for DVD's and when I spent quite a bit of money with my 5.1 system I think its only fair that I don't get interference from my DVD player. When you find out could you compare it to the Xbox and with a decent set of speakers so that I know how wuiet it will be with all things considered? That would be great, thankyou.

The Xbox DVD Playback is as good as most top Standalone DVD Players. The problem however lies with the noise the console makes whilst you are watching DVD's. Even with my Dolby Digital System and my Central Speaker next to it I can still hear it very clearly. I am looking to get a DVD player within the next few weeks but it needs to be almost silent :)
