Me buying a new pc.. I got a TFT and keyboard/mouse etc so I'm trying to spec up something decent.

This is what I have come up with so far, with my budget of £600.

Comments please..

Internet, gaming, VMware, web design, Java programming....

As for the case - probably change that.

Will look into the radeon cards now, and the OEM Athlon.

Yea nforce 2 is better.. but if you cant afford if you can make do with the noise perhaps get the Radeon he suggested to you.. i heard very good things about the Radeons.
The onboard lan and audio are as good as you can get, the audio is on par with the SB auidgy with 5.1 speaker support and will save you loads :)

Nice. A few points though:

- although Chieftec power supplies are good, that system is possibly stretching 340W a little too much. Plus make sure that case has at least two fans (it should).

- a Radeon 9100 has more bangs per buck than a Geforce4

- a better bet than the retail version of the XP2600 is the OEM version, then buy your own heatsink. It'll be quieter++

- for the same money as that Asus board you could have the ABIT NF7-S which is in theory faster, with better audio
