Can anybody recommend me a decent one please?

The only ones that I have managed to get just leave a fuzzing noise instead of converting the sound.

Oh, I've got CDex but that only rips them off CDs, I want to convert small WAV files that are already stored on my PC.

Thanks.

I use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip to wav, then lame, via a razorlame interface to convert to mp3. Razor lame allows you to specify the bitrate, or min/max rates for variable bitrate recordings. Its very good, with almost perfect encoding. Best of all both the above programs are shareware, and can be downloaded for free from various internet sites. Just type the names into a search engine and there should not be a problem in finding a site to download them from.

You can infact use Sound Recorder to do this (Start menu > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder) which I think comes with windows... Dunno about the quality of it, but I used it to record an interview I recorded onto MiniDisc to the PC and then convert it to MP3 format for download...

Sonic Foundry Soundforge 6 with the latest Steinberg MP3 codec. Works a treat if you know what you're doing.
