I've just sold my Xbox. I don't know what emotions run through me right now. Sadness? Happiness? Or just a little numb?

Anyway, what I have left with me are my memories. Hell, when I first got it back in 2001 with the 4 games bundle, I was so excited. Jet Set Radio Future, Halo, Sega Gt and Splinter Cell were just so new back then. And when the months proceeded, so did the Xbox in terms of large quantites of quality software. Knights - jeez, everytime I play that just makes me feel so nostalgic. Beyond Good and Evil - a multi format game, but a superb one nothenless.

But come 2004, everything started to get a little generic for me. Where were these once obsecure and innovative games the console derived in? Otogi? Panzer Dragoon? Ninja Gaiden? Shenmue 2? No, the Xbox had hit the mainstream, completely outselling the Gamecube in most regions - it was the hype of Halo 2 that I felt started to tarnish the console's 'hardcore' gaming reputation. The releases of Grand Theft Auto also worked wonders for console sale-wise, but the Xbox started to become 'cool' and mainstream.

After Halo 2, the charm of the console was no longer there. I picked up Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Jade Empire and KOTOR 2 that year, and I had to force myself to play it. The novelty of Xbox Live just wore thin and the console just started to depress me, only leaving Outrun 2 being the only game worthy of my time. I'm a total Nintendo fan at heart, and I really try not to be biased, but the Xbox doesn't really have that 'wow' factor anymore. The Gamecube? It's still got loads of titles I want to buy - just recently bought Baten Kaitos, and its excellent.

It's sad. I wanted to continue loving the Xbox, and even considering a 360, but those days are long gone. I'm left with all my retro consoles (look at my profile for the list ;P), my DS and Gamecube. Come on Ninty. Show them how it's done with the Revolution.

Oblivion is what really sold the 360 to me.

The controls are easier t pick up, but they're harder to master. For a start getting head shots with a mouse is a hell of a lot easier than getting headshots with an analog stick.

You try going up against some of the high ranked people on Halo 2 or Chaos Theory, and then decide whether you've really mastered the game.

Yeah I had that. Got to Chapter 12, and yeah it's very deep. It's just the controls are very accessible, and if it was on PC (it wouldn't work I know), it would probably be deeper becuase there are more controls. I didn't say the Xbox doesn't have deep games, I said the controls were more accessible yet in my opinion a little less flexible and diverse.

Lol, I knew someone was going to say that. Sorry, it's just the controls on the PC has so much more to it, whilst the Xbox is much more accessible. It doesn't seem that there is much skill involved. Christ, everyone is gonna go mad now...:p

Hmmmm. I'm not sure. There isn't really anything that appeals to me anymore - not even the Xbox Live. I mean any FPS I play on the console just bores me now - the PC FPS's are so much better. Even if it's the same game!

I really, really don't think Far Cry will be that good on the Xbox. It will never beat it's predecessor and the lack of controls will create less diversity and flexibility to the gameplay. Half Life is meant to have no online options, and even if it does, it will NO WAY beat the PC version. EVER.

There is just more skill involved with PC games. If you get good at a PC game, you really are good. With Xbox you can just pick up and master it within minutes of play. A lot of people will prefer that, but I don't. So there.

Yeah, they were making an Online version of Shenmue in an alternative to a proper sequel, and they said if that sold well, then they would definitely make a third installment. Sadly, they have canned it. The game was so expensive to make and so little people bought it. But I've had this conversation about a million times :p

Ah, Sega. I love ya.

I'm always on the lookout for games to chillout to so Shenmue II sounds like a good one.
