Even my Dad owns one, and he's not exactly what you'd call an "early adopter". Up until last year, he was still copying his VHS tapes to DVD, as he'd discovered the delights of the "modern formats".
Gave him a Bluray player a few weeks ago, now he thinks his living room is futuristic.
Point is, given that pixel counts are increasing, dynamic range is increasing, the number of users of the new format is increasing at an alarming rate, and that both Sony and Microsoft are working to make their consoles more useful for the 4K format (the Xbox is STILL one of the cheapest ways to get a true 4K bluray player), seems a bit "retro" to create a console that doesn't even come near.
The Xbox 360 didn't have a Bluray player when they were considered the next big thing (and a vast majority of homes still don't have a Bluray player and are still using DVD). It even came without HDMI connection as that was becoming the norm. Obviously, the 360 was a terrible console that didn't do very well.
Only new sales of TVs will be 4K for the general public since the services that support them (Sky and Virgin, not Freeview or Freesat yet) aren't exactly teeming with content to push the need for people to change their current sets. So I dare say there are people out there who have a 4K TV and aren't the usual ones to go and rush out and get a new TV because of new technology, but it's only because they needed a new TV.
The 4K format,TV wise, is still in its infancy, too, with 2 competing HDR formats that are independent of each other, an ever increasing gulf between cheap 4K TVs with bad upscaling and terrible refresh and response rates and the middle to top end models that are far better for sports or gaming. Unless you spend a fair bit of money, it's much better to wait until it's all settled down.
PS4 Pro and Scorpio (which isn't even out until November) are still seen as only for those who are early adoptors at the moment, even the head of Xbox says that it's not going to be their main console but the vast majority of sales will be for the Xbox One S, which only does 4K upscaling on games (exactly the same tech used by the TVs themselves to upscale from 1080p). So Switch is pretty much the same, outputting at 1080p with 4K TV owners upscaling from that to 4K.
And Steam still shows the vast majority of PC gamers (those earliest of technology pushers) to be playing at 1080p resolutions.

Same situation at my parents' house. I was stunned to see a curved 4K TV sitting there. Of course, my dad will have absolutely no idea what 4K is but it did make me feel rather behind the times. On the other hand, I've no need for a 4K TV since there wouldn't be any 4K input so I'm in no hurry.

Not sure what you're getting at with "oh, and most pc gamers..." My point is that "most people have a 4K tv"; nothing whatsoever to do with pc gamers and monitor resolution.

Wasn't anything flat about it when I was playing. Looks wonderful, like a Studio Ghibli movie. Considering most console games are 900p or 720p it's the standard. Oh, and most PC gamers are still 1080p, too.
Don't do consoles in general any more, but this is like the time I connected an N64 to my old HD tv. Looked absolutely awful, so bad that it made my eyes want to crawl out of my head. I just think the trailer for Zelda looked dreadful, and it reminded me ENTIRELY of that time.

My TV is quite happy to upscale 1080p content, and does a pretty damned good job of it. Anything less than that, not so sure...

No it wasn't ocarina, as I said, the NEW Zelda game.
900p and flat graphics just doesn't cut it as far as I'm concerned; call it a "style" all you want, it still looks ropey.

Was it called Ocarina of Time? The Breath of the Wild is none of those things.

I need coffee before I can function. I may have taken the bus in to work today but I can't remember what the weather was like... :)
sun is shining today and it feels more mild than yesterday.
After the carnage of my daughter having 2 friends round after school yesterday, I think myself and the cats are really appreciating the silence right now.
