Which is why 'power surge' lit up in big pink neon letters in my head. It's that, or gremlins. Have you been feeding cute creatures after midnight again?
Probably should have mentioned that once rebooted, I discovered that the BIOS on the cards had been overwritten.. Not corrupted, but actually overwritten, so I don't think its a power surge.
My cat did have some late night treats a while ago, and he's really cute!:-)

Yup, no warning, no burning smell, nothing. I start up one PC, browse the internet for 10 minutes, fire up a game and the whole lot locks. A hard reboot, and both my cards are showing as 8Bit DACS.
Ten minutes later, my other PC is doing the same. Different drivers, different nVidia card, different motherboard...
Same problem.
Little bit odd, don't you think?
It certainly is strange, I always had coloured triangles occasionally appearing especially when underload i.e. within a game or at start up, never a burning smell though.
The only thing that both machines had in common then was the electricity!

Morning all (just) ...
Had a couple of snow flurries earlier, but hasn't come to anything.
@chas ... sorry to hear of your demise, it certainly sounds strange for them to go like that. Normally you tend to see 'signs' of failure a few days prior to the event!

Waiting for the snow to arrive, looks threatening but it's been like this for the last 3 hours when I got up.
Over clocking? Power surge?
No, and no...
But yes, it is expensive..
Sounds nasty, and expensive.
Anyway, morning. Bit of a wet one again. Typical February weather, though, I suppose.
What kills three graphics cards in two PCs within 10 minutes?
If you believe the nVidia tech support, the answer is "Chas and his wife by doing something silly like browsing the internet and then starting up a game"...
