I'm considering buying a keyboard due to my lack of piano. It's a poor substitute but you've got to learn somehow.
I have a guitar and a keyboard but I got them for midi use.

I've been working on that for absolutely -ages-, don't you dare give up. That was nothing to do with the competition, it's what I play myself to get me to sleep at night, I can't play anything else!
The whole idea of this is for people to slowly build themselves over time anyway, the only competition is of yourself, and that to learn/self improve etc. The worst thing you can do is lose confidence in your capability. You might not be able to 'get out' what you want, but it's a start?
So yeah, don't say that!
