Well, the prices have been dropped down to £54.99, which is a little more reasonable, I guess, a bit. I suspect it's more like a reaction to negative feedback. If it was a placeholder, I doubt EA would be happy with how they've been portrayed in the whole thing.
Yes, but aren't EA the only company that can get away with charging £60 straight out for a pc game?
Sims 4 apparently will be more than that, with some suggestion of the "full" edition being somewhere around £80.
Sony have said that the prices are just placeholders until the Store properly launches for PS4 at the end of the week. This may be just a reaction to the feedback from would-be customers, but it's nice to hear, none-the-less.
Until digital prices can truly compete with retail, which just doesn't seem likely on consoles due to a lack of competition on a digital market, then the "digital age" won't come to fruition.
Besides, I must say I shudder in thinking about downloading a 30-50GB game on a shared 5Mbps connection. (That being said, it's so annoying living in one of the newest, most affluent builds in one of Britain's major cities, in an area with the largest concentration of fibre optic cables in the country, and not having fibre optic available in the building. It is frankly ridiculous).
We can only hope that retail "normalises" down to the nice £40 level and that digital sales at those stupid prices stall producing further price cuts (EA have already cut from £63) so that gaming can become a hobby easier to maintain within times of austerity.
...hope...
Next gen game prices are creeping up again. Amazon seem to have put their prices up now that the Xbox One games have launched. £49.99 or so seems to be about the average. GAME seem to be going for £44.99 but this is still £5 less than the recommended price.
I don't like this trend.
And what's worse is the price of digital games on PSN and the likes. Not that I buy digital much, but charging £60 for a PSN download game is robbery.
I have disliked the trend of £49.99 releases since I first started noticing it. In all honesty I think that £40 is the sweet spot for most gamers, and whilst I will pay the new prices if I feel the game is worth the money, it definitely makes you think before buying.
I don't like this trend.
