Am hoping to see Bond on Friday. I've heard good things, and I am a fan of the series (even if it is pretty much a repeated formula)
Doubt I'll see Bond before it gets released on bluray or home tv. Only film I'm likely to watch at the cinema is Star Wars.
Went to watch Bond yesterday, thought it was alright but wasn't blown away by it in the quite same way others seem to have been for some reason. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination it just seemed to be missing something for me and I'm not quite sure what it was...?
Girls, guns, ridiculous gadgets, crazy stunts...
Isn't that (essentially) everything when it comes to Bond films? I've not seen the latest one, but if something's missing, it doesn't leave a lot...
Happy Hallowe'en ... :¬)
Why are there so many fireworks tonight?
Hallowe'en has never been a 'celebration' like this until it was adopted from the US of A ...
All Hallows/Saints Eve was a time to remember and celebrate the departed and saints before All Saint's Day ... ok, so fireworks are a celebration but why now?
US inherited from Celtic sources first where it was celebrated long before. Christians only took it up to recruit the pagans (as with moving Christmas to December 25th). The trick or treaters have been doing the rounds for many decades.
Fireworks seem to be independent, though. Some for Hindu festivals, some for Halloween and others just because you can buy them and people have money to burn (or are too stupid to use it on something sensible).
And Fireworks night...a celebration of killing some Catholics who tried to kill some Protestants. Hardly relevant now, but still...
(Frozen ... of course;¬)!)
Next year, any kid who knocks on my door will get a free toothbrush. My kids have been given so many sweets I'm considering preemptively booking them into the dentists next week or the sweets might magically disappear.
