And don't get me wrong, I like some online trophies. Burnout Paradise, for example, I enjoyed every moment of collecting those, and I continued to play after finishing. But in general, I dislike how cheap people can be online, so online trophies grind on me.
I like Online ones also, it keeps the game alive longer in my opinion.
I personally think that trophies are good (i'll refer to both achievements and trophies as trophies from now on, being a PS3 owner only), provided that the actual trophies themselves add something to the game. Ones that make you play the game differently to how you normally would to achieve them, they are what I call good trophies. Achieve 100,000 kills online, not a good trophy.
As a general rule, I don't particularly like online trophies, and if I feel the need to go for them, it generally feels like i'm grinding, and it sucks the fun out of the game. Trophies should add to the fun of the game, not detract from it.
But trophy searching has allowed me to play some games that I have enjoyed, but would have otherwise not played, Quantum of Solace, for example. But it did end up spoiling games like Saints Row 2 for me, so it's a bit of a double edged sword.
Basically, they're good for those who want them, but for those who really don't, there probably should be some sort of "Notifications Off" setting so the arrival of a trophy/achievement doesn't have to bother those who play purely for the game, and nothing else.

That's fine. Collecting stamps entertains some people and they're welcome to that!
While I don't like Achievements personally, I do like High Score tables and wish more games designers thought about including online high scores.
But Dragon Age and Borderlands I'm just 1 trophy off getting platinum. Because I like them and the added challenge of getting trophies.
I'm sure you have got a game pb where you have noticed a trophy and gone "ooh I can get that one", if you have enjoyed the game?
I usually finish the game once and then go back and go for achievements and trophies. It does depend on the game though.
I'm a completionist which is why I've already spent over 100 hours on Forza 2 completing it all. I could have stopped and claimed I had finished the game once I had completed the career mode but the achievements kept me playing.
There are some games that have poor achievement sets. Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Burning Earth springs to mind.
> Bah! Achievements. I don't bother, I play the games to

Completely agree.Gaming is a form of entertainment IMO,like watching a film or listening to music, don't get achievements for those. If some people want to play all the way through a game they have already completed in order to collect any bits they may have missed then that's up to them, its not something I would do or would have the time to do TBH.But each to their own I suppose ?.
I've found myself wanting to get the platinum trophies on some of the games lately. For the challenge if nothing else. But there is a strange fascination with it, that I think hits the very core of a gamer.
I first started playing just because, but then I realised that by playing more you get better etc. Then I discovered Final Fantasy, and realised you could make characters get better too! ....Roll on over 120 hours on one game getting the last str point to 255 all my stats on FF7 :(
I think it plays on that.
