Well he's been speculated to move for months now. I don't think he's been lured in by Barca or Inter, there's definitely something wrong that's making him unhappy. I stand by what I said though, he's still a Liverpool player on a contract, and a breach of that contract is surely punishable. More than likely Hodgson just wants him out the way to save all the trouble.

I think the public reason was that Mascherano and his family couldn't settle in England. What I believe to be true is that he had his head turned by the offers for him.

Well for a start, Barca were offering something ridiculous along the lines of 12 million. Hodgson has publicly said he won't stand in the way of Mascherano leaving if the right deal comes through, which is fair enough. He's only 26 or so, and he's one of the top defensive midfielders in the world, 12 million from a team like Barcelona is an insult. They could easily afford him. Inter offered 6 million for him. Now that really is ridiculous. Benitez obviously still hasn't learnt how to be a proper manager.

Barca look to have to secured a deal in the region of 18 million, but this was extremely recent. Despite all of this, the fact remains that Mascherano is currently a Liverpool player, and he should be committed 100% until otherwise. Good riddance.

And Hodgson most definitely would have played Mascherano against City had he had the choice, but Mascherano is effectively on strike at the moment.

Why does he want to leave? Aside from the reasons you gave, you won't find many players that would reject Barca when they come calling. Even players that don't stand much of a change of getting any further than the subs bench (see Hleb as just one example) can't reject the Barcas or Madrids.

I thought Roy decided to drop him because his 'head was somewhere else' (or the usual rubbish excuse when someone is clearly going to move). I appreciate that's probably because he'd rather claim it was his decision rather than Mascherano's, but unless we're told otherwise it's hard to believe otherwise.

Speaking of football, I'm sick of Mascherano. He refused to play on Monday against Man City (not an excuse for us losing, but I think we would've done heaps better with Masch in the middle). He should be fined. Despite the speculations of his transfer, he is still a Liverpool player, and should be dedicated to his club until he is officially transferred. I don't know why he wants to leave anyway, he plays well for the club, the fans did love him, he gets constant first team football. Yes, we didn't make the champions league, but the fact is, he's committed to a contract.

Rangers 'fans' really need to improve things. UEFA have fined Rangers in the past and they are on their last warning I think. There never used to be any bother (other than the bigotry) but it's crept back in or in the case of Manchester, flooded back in. At least there is no chance they will make Wembley so the morons won't be invading England twice in the one season.

In terms of progress, I expect Rangers to finish bottom. They were dismal last season, this is a tougher group and their £4m striker can't play. But at the moment, the money is all that counts and a couple of games against Man Utd is certainly going to help.

The rest of Scotland got knocked out which just shows how poor things are becoming. At least Craig Brown went out with style

Fisticuffs

Spur should certainly have their eye on securing 2nd place.

Think I'm going to book Wednesday off work as well as Tuesday so I've got a longer time off. Still want to leave a few days for Christmas to bridge the gap between the bank holidays though.

Me, WH and McLong had this exact conversation this morning. It could be an important couple of games for Rangers too, as they have a very real chance of progressing from the group, with a bit of luck.

No doubt the City of Manchester will be delighted to welcome Rangers fans back.
