Who do you mean by 'we'? Atheists are not religious believers, but some attempt to convert people. That is the point I'm making, you can't target religious believers.
This is something I have never witnessed. I have never seen atheists/agnostics willingly bring up that they are such out of the blue. It has always been in reponse to a religious viewpoint.
Jehovah's witnesses are trying to save people, wether you believe in the afterlife or not, they are not doing it for personal gain; how would that work? I prefer that to some guy trying to sell me earthquake insurance.
You don't understand why someone would want everyone to agree with them? There's nothing else I can say to you

Nice one pb, well done :¬)
Someone seems to have done a good job of cleaning up all that nonsense from last night.
Iron Maiden tickets go on pre-sale this Friday, can't really afford to go and last time I saw them they were pretty disappointing. But it is Maiden and they can be awesome...................... decisions.

Yes it is. Dick Dawkings aside, since when do we go around trying to recruit? All we ever do is defend our position when we're challenged on it. I'd quite happily never talk about this subject ever again but I know that eventually I'm going to have to go through this conversation again with the next arrogant person who is willingly trying to undermine my viewpoint.[/i]

What a wet looking day. Just hoping the busses back home don't get flooded in.
@Nin - sounds like you've been unlucky, we've only ever had jehovah's Witnesses round and they're the exception as a rule. If you're basing everything on your own personal experience of family then I can understand why you feel that way, but there ARE Athiests who push their views down people's throats just as there are religious people who do the same, my point is that it's a very small percentage of them that do.
When do most Christians or average members of other religions?
Too often in my experience. Just off the top of my head, I've had it from my nan and at least 4 friends and in each case it caused an argument.
When was the last time an atheist agnostic bought the topic up and tried to convince you that you're in the wrong? Because in my experience, we've got better things to talk about. It's only when people like the guy below bring it up that I'm compelled to put up a counter-argument, for reasons I've already explained.
I agree that those try to recruit are just the same as those annoying hard sell utility people who come knocking at your door, but I've never personally known anyone who does this and I know a lot of people from different religions.
This is exactly my position. I think I've used these very words before but imagine someone espousing religion as a vaccum salesman.
You come to my door off, trying to sell me something I've not asked for
You're insistent that your vacuum is best, even though I already have one that works for me and your one looks unstable
You insult my vacuum, implying it's not good enough even though you've never seen it
Now swap the word vacuum for entire belief system and you see why I find it so incredibly insulting. It doesn't have to be a door-to-door salesman, it can be someone simply starting a conversation but the effect is the same, it's trying to sell me a vaccum I don't need.

It's pretty much the same for Athiests/Agnostics/General religious believers. It's the few on all sides who undermine the average person.
