No, PSN isn't really any better in that respect, but in my experience less of them have microphones.
Having played on both sides of the fence, I can confirm that XBL and PSN both have horrible gamers online a lot of a lot of the time. 12 year olds on Call of Duty and americans whinging down you ears, you can't get away from it sadly.
I think you should have to provide your passport number or something so it can actually be clarified you are the age you are. Would make online far safer, but it would be impossible to implement, what with the various countries across the world just for starters....
And easier said than done pete! Although, I am socialising online with her best friend (not weird because she has a boyfriend). She's a girl in a close knit group of friends, so it's important to get along well with her friends. Sisters before 'ho's' it seems.

I like my 360,simply stick a disc in it then play the game,none of this stick a disc in go on holiday and hopefully it will be just about ready play when I get back nonsense.The only thing that does wind me up a bit with it are the hordes of annoying potty mouthed 12 year old idiots that seem to live on Xbox Live,don't know if PSN is any better?

The installation process itself isn't what annoys me. I can wait the one time for it to be done. It's just I'd like it to at least be honest with the space it requires. Hopefully shouldn't be an issue once I switch the 60GB for a 640GB :P

Well my 'gameplan' is vague at the moment (hate to use the term 'gameplan', but oh well). I see four possible options.
1.Sit in the corner all night, probably won't make contact apart from the initial "Hello".
2.Get drunk, thus gain confidence (I always become very confident when I'm drunk) and talk to her all night. Ask her out sometime. She says "Yes".
3.Get drunk, make a fool of myself, ruin my chances.
4.Stay sober, chat with her as much as possible, try to ask her out.
You see option 4 is probably the right way to go about it, but it's also the hardest. Options 1 and 3 are probably most likely. Option 2 is very risky as it could easily turn to Option 3 very quickly.
As you said Nin, think the main thing is to go out and enjoy myself. If something happens, then great. Surely if I like her enough, I'll make something happen (not rape, but ask her out).
