But that's exactly what Sodenbury did with Ocean's Eleven and turned the pathetic original into something watchable. Solaris took a similarily dire original and turned it into an only below average film.

In Hollywood nothing is sacred, they have to dig up every sucessfull film, kill it, and make sure nobody has any good memories of old films.
The same goes on in the music industry, songs are covered time and time again until nobody knows who originally performed it.
