Sometimes I look at people going about their buisness and wonder what is going on in their minds. What are they thinking about, what are their hopes and dreams. Then I wonder if other people ever wonder what people are thinking. The next logical step is to wonder if anyway has every wondered what I am thinking. Maybe the person I am looking at right now, wondering what they are thinking, is looking at me, and wondering what I am thinking.
My thoughts seem so personal to me, stuff that even my partner doesn't know about me. But if other people are thinking the same things as me then how do I locate my sense of individuality. Have I ever had a thought that no one else has had? I bet this isn't the first time this has been voiced either.
But somebody must have thought these things first? Some early philospher. But of course he wouldn't have know that he was the first person to think that thought, how can anyone ever know that the thoughts they have are original.
And are we using up what original thoughts there are left? Are there any original thoughts left. and if there aren't any original thoughts left, then how can I possibly hope to become anything that is different. How can I be 'me'.
Whenever I have felt inspired to post something recently this has been holding me back. Can I say anything that you haven't heard a million times before? And if thats the case, then why would you want to read something that you have already read?
I would love to know what your feelings are on this.

That's an interesting question, but it is one that you cannot answer without defining the terms within it.
The obvious answers would be yes, if you are not distinctive in some way then you are the same as the next person, and so not an individual. However, Collins Gem Dictionary also describes an individual as a single person or thing.
The question now is is that the case because the dictionary knows that everyone is in some way different, and therefore individual, or are two people two individuals even if they are exactly the same on every level?
I don't think that I can answer that, but I can conclude that it really doesn't matter. Either way people are very different.
Even if two people have the same thoughts, there may be a different spin from person to person. Or one person may have a different spin on certain ideas or concepts because they are a different person.
Even if two people do have the same thoughts, if you look closely enough they are probably subtley different.

Should you 'have' to be different to be an individual? Different from what?

Well, because, whatever you write I find interesting. Even if someone had already written a similar post, I would read yours. Your posts seem to make a lot of sense to me..
And, are you a scorpio?!!
Why do your thoughts make you an individual?
It's not so surprising that lots of people sometimes think the same things, but that doesn't stop you from being an individual.
I know that you know as well as I do that you are genetically an individual.
This raises two questions that I think you should try to answer, because I don't think that individual is the right word.
The first is how different do you have to be to be individual?
The second is in what way do you feel you should be individual?
There is a theory I heard from a guy called Richard Feynman that says (I think) that consciousness is just a set of random errors in the synapses in your brain. As theories go it's quite a contravertial one, because it goes some way to attributing your individuality, and your sense of being, to a set of random errors. Mistakes even.
