I don't know how good Norton and other PC stuff is at protecting your computer from hackers but I still wouldn't give out my IP address. That gives the hackers your exact location. They simply trac back the IP addy from were it is being broadcast from and from there it is just a task of hacking and I don't think you'd break the computer misuse act unless you tought you were good enough to get away with it.

Don't worry, I won't scan your IP or whatever hackers do. You'll have a hard time getting people to give you their IP ads (as you've seen so far) since everyone's cautious about protecting their computers from hackers. Some friends might be more willing, though.

Emmm well the fact that to hack into some ones computer all you need is there IP address and a little PC knowledge makes me a bit(Understatment)un willing just to tell people it. You should keep all your network connections firewalled and never tell anyone your IP addy because although your computer broadcasts it whenever you are online if someone finds it and you have anything remotely important on your computer then they will take the info they want. Normally they aren't interested in home computers only big businesses but they may still do it.

If you're using a dial-up connection you're IP will change. Some broadband ISPs will let you have a static IP, though more often than not that's not it'll change everytime you log off too.

If you just want servers to play on why not use GameSpy Arcade? I've never played Unreal, but for Half-Life (and varients) it was always good - and covers loads of on-line games so I'd be 99% certain it'll have Unreal support. Gives you all sort of information on the server too i.e. how many people are on it, their names so you can search for your friends, level they are playing on etc.
