Before we named an egg, an egg, what the hell was it? Would an alien call a Lion a Lion or have another name for it?

What baffles me is that evolution could come up with something as daft as a chicken in the first place.

I think TIM-MAY's post was suggesting that the chicken never came before,
the cockeral came, and the chicken layed a fertilized egg.
