Hi, I go to play a video from the internet and I get this message:

Windows Media Player cannot play this file. Connect to the Internet or insert the removable media on which the file is located, and then try to play the file again.

How could I stop this from happening, and getting the videos to play?

Cheers....

I go to Yahoo Music videos and that works with the full media player 9. Also my firewall gave me some jip with the yahoo site as it wasnt allowing the video to connect with media player 9 where as 8 was fine.

Probably the sites arent capatable with media player 9 yet, as yahoo wouldnt work with 9 beta and they said they were working on it with Microsoft.

One was the Ministry of Sound website, as detailed below. Can't recall the other one - but it was a music video site.

Shouldn't be my firewall, as I never had any problem under Media Player 8, and neither RealPlayer or QuickTime have any such problems.

So what are the sites you are getting problems with? Could it be due to other things like Firewalls blocking the video data?

Already have. Never bothered installing the beta version - installed the official release just last week.

No DivX and Xvid will not download via Media Player, you do actually need to go and install those two by hand.

With this streaming stuff it could me Windows Media Player 9 as yahoo music videos had problems, but Mircosoft have just released the proper Windows Media player 9 as before it was a Beta. If the stream can not be located then it may be the server and not your computer. Upgrade to the latest version of Media Player 9, or uninstall to a previous version like 7 or 8.

I think my keyboard is playing up. Or my fingers - which is more likely!

It's not a coded problem - it downloads codes automatically, without problem. The problem is that for some reason, it can't locate the stream on the server.

Its most likely a codec problem

Download divX and Xvid and install them

they are nothing more than compression formats(make big files smaller)

but you will require them to view most internet files and these are just the most common file types theree are many more

Considering Microsoft's track record with online security, I won't be turning my firewall off for any of their products!

Other streams have worked fine, though.
