Apologies in advance for a stupid question...

I have just had NTL broadband installed and had my phone line taken out. I seem to have hit a problem in that I cannot seem to upload updates to our Club site. Am I reading this right in that I have to subscribe to Freeola Broadband for £30 per month just to upload web updates twice a year or pay to have my phone line put back in??

Yes I will look into that as well, although our site has been hosted by freeola for a few years. Its only a small youth football club and freeola is quite economical (although not if I have to have my phone line reinstalled) LOL!

Yes it seems the easiest thing to do would be to save to CD-Rom and then install Cute-FTP on someone else's computer and use their modem to dial up/upload. I think you can upload using broadband but if I am reading it right you have to subscribe to the freeola monthly subscription (£29.99) as they do not do minute billing as they do with 0845 numbers.

As jive says this is most likely the security feature and im guessing its the only way round it other than going back to dial up on the phone line account

I'm pretty sure that Freeola is a dial up account only, I've seen people ask this question before and the answer is that you have to use the dial up.

Have you got a friend who you could send the files to and who could then upload them from using their phoneline, save you having to re-install (at extra cost no doubt) your phone line.

I take it, as you said, you only update the site once or twice a year so paying someone a couple of quid per year wont hurt you too much...will it?

Oops

sorz should have read thread thoroughly. Its pretty obvious its a dial up modem so its most likely that NTL dont do dial up access and that you cant directly access there FTP through the cable unless they give you access web based from freeola and not being up on dial up accounts im not quite sure how its managed but as stated earlier an e-mail will most likely sort things out.

If I was you I would e-mail freeola and ask if it can be accessed remotely from an IP other than one generated by them if it is then its purely FTP settings if its not then its a security feature some companies have to reduce site access from hackers and stuff.

Check that out if its no use I'd suggest you post error reports or such(but without passwords) and im sure someone will be able to help

Sorry I was not very clear, our site is hosted through Freeola. Yes I usually use FTP but cannot now dial using the freeola 0845 number

First of all I'm assuming you have upload knowledge such as FTP and such 2nd your site is non NTL based?

If so it works just the way most uploads do unless they have FTP inhibitors eg they do not allow you to upload from anywhere except the IP they gave you from subscription by this I mean most NTL homepages can only be accessed by FTP from direct IP connection from an NTL account.

Need more details

Good luck
