Um ok here goes.

Games have settings in them, usually you choose a setting for your connection which sets maximum packet rates and wot not. The cable settings in game are developed for american cable. American cable is often 1/2 upload ratio. European and especially ntl is 1/4 upload therefore there can be packet loss and latrency due to trying to match download to the return upload that the setting is designed for.

You can manually reset ratio in most games but not a lot of people know how to, or even realise this is acually the problem.

Although ping is important it is only part of the story. If you have a higher ping than someone but a stable connection and they get lag spikes your gonna find it beneficial to stick with the stable connection.

Sorry I cant explain it any more clearer hope it helps

This one has got me!

THe fact that I'm confused doesn't help either...

Anyway, I get pings of 18 with my 128k line, I've just finsihed playing Quake 3 and the highest ping I had was 30 with the lowest being 11 (that's what I saw!)

Then again, the 'green box' is only across the road!

The Correct Connect is only a diagnosise tool, your cable connection is either on or off. Suggest you contact NTL and tell them the problem, if you keep nagging them they'll get an engineer out to look at the installation.

My ex had numerous problems after upgrading from dail-up to a 128k line, she phoned them numourous times and in the end got two months line free of charge and had about 5 visits from the enginners.

As someone has already said, goto www.nthellworld.com and sign up and post your problems on there, you'll also find loads of info about the Correct Connect, some think it's good, others (including the Tech guys) think it's rubbish.

Good luck

Ive had all NTL's speeds from there early 64k service then 128K, 512K, 600K and now 1Mbit.

Although there download is very good there upload and upload ratio isnt very good eg a quarter, this isnt so bad as long as your only browsing but if your web managing or online gaming it can be very detrimental due to 3d game settings which are usually designed to work on US cable which is often 1/2 upload ratio this leads to packet loss and bandwidth bottleneck in action when you most need it.

try this site to find out more details

register for there forums and it has a ton of info in it

Round here NTLs 128K service is actually 256K, I don't know if it's the same everywhere. I guess they must run it at double speed to get you addicted then when the local exchages get loaded up they will drop it back down, people won't be able to cope with the slower connection and everyone will upgrade.
