Had a quick go. Seems like everything Doom 3 should have been.

Nah doom 3 was all about atmosphere; Serious Sam is about firing wildly in every direction.

I downloaded it and had a go, feels a bit flakey, more like a PS1 game than the solid games like doom 3 and half-life 2.

True. SS2 is basically a 3d version of Doom2. I.E. Monster overkill.
Damn. I've just had a play of it. I've zoned out for about 15 minutes. The last game that did that to me was Tempest 2000.
