I have an idea which I hope to make money out of from one of my websites,
I want your opinion

Here's the idea.

I hope to provide a service which will register and set up a domain name for people who don't know how to or just don't have the time.
The domain name price will be included in the total cost.
The only other fee will be a set up fee (Different depending on which domain you want i'e a .net domain or a .com domain

I just want to know if you think anyone will use the service.

To be honest, I'm not so sure they would.

Take 123-reg.co.uk for example, they have the best prices I've seen, and have a Control Panel that is very easy to use.

Where as Freeola arn't cheap on the outside, but when you look at how they intergrate getdotted with their hosting, again it's quite easy to get to grips with.

Personally, I don't think you'd be able to charge enough to make yourself any kind of profit and convince people to go with you rather than 123-reg or Freeola.

Of course, you you had a REALLY good looking Web Site for this, then I maybe wrong :).

At the moment I plan to register domains on behalf of someone else via an existing company,

At the moment I don't want to make any large profit,
Bu some people will use it no doubt,

It's an interesting idea, but I can't really see it being of any benifit to you.

Firstly, you have so many other people doing this, who have managed to set up and establish themselfs, and most of these seem to own their own servers, so should anything go wrong, they have the systems and knoladge of how to fix it quick.

Secondaly, if it were to take-off, the prices you can get on the Internet are so small from some companies (who work in bulk) that you would find it hard to compete againsn't them, and if you did have your prices lower than theirs, profit would be practically nothing. It wouldn't be worth you doing. You'd make more money cleaning offices than sellind Domains.

One question though. Do you mean you plan to offer the registration of a Domain on behalf on someone else via an existing company, or becoming an official member of Nominet and Internic, etc ... and selling the Domains Yourself, and renting some server space to host Addresses?

Where will these people get hosts from?

How will people pay?

There are thousands of registration services available, why will they choose yours?

Don't waste your time, it's not gonna work!

It's like trying to set up an OS to rival Windows from scratch!

What strain? I go to getdotted.com, I type in the domain I want, I click search, I select the domain if its available, I click buy, I type in my details. Depending on where you buy your domain from, you can even be prompted for a url straight away of where you'd like your domain forwarded to.
