I've had a few virus warnings from webpages, a script that is designed to harm your PC...
Dunno what it was though...

It can help to stop any random programs you have from accessing the net...
RealPlayer does it all the time, mot probably spyware in the software that Ad-Aware won't kill off...

You're wrong. Virus' can't just 'seep in' through the internet, you are either getting themby opening infected e-mails or through downloading and executing infected software.
And anyone who gets a virus by installing cracked software thoroughly deserved it.
Also viri come in some things like Kazaa downloads, cracks (for those whom use them) and even Word documents.
As for firewalls..... no, I still can't think of a use for them.
Not getting viruses is pretty easy: don't open attatchments,and don't use Microsoft products to browse the web or read your emails.
