Maybe so in your opinion, but does what they think really matter to you ? How does it make your life any worse ? Oh, it doesn't. So it matters because.... Nothing makes your opinion any more valid than theirs really. So live with it.
The assumption you're making is that because they think this it implies something else, just like the idiots who band around the famous "5% of American know where Iraq is yet 90% want to attack it" (or variations of that phrase). Just because they don't know where it is doesn't make their opinion less valid. If someone wants to think differently about human evolution then all the best to them, and unless they start forcing others to think the same way then it doesn't bother me, I'm more bothered abot real things. Y'know, stuff that matters.
And why does it have to be Americans eh ? I dread to think the kinds of survey results you could get for the UK..."5% know who runs the country" "80% think Ibiza and tenerife are really different to home" "90% want to hang pedophiles, and anyone else they think could be" "75% think whining about a problem helps" "90% moan about government but less than 50% vote anyway" and so on. In fact I daresay very few in this country could identify Iraq as well from a map, most hadn't a clue about Afghanistan until the war either.

i can call you an idiot though if you really want me to

And? I believe that too, although I'm not American. Have to say...I didn't think it was that many, but that's not a bad thing.
As for calling me an idiot? Maybe you should judge yourself before you judge others.
