You do know, not all sony fans buy there consoles for the metal gear solid series!!!
not all sony fans "buy" the metal gear solid games.
I buy them but it dont mean every playstation sold means 1 metal gear solid title sold. alot of gamers love the Gran turismo series. There are other games. Why would i want to take a step back and get a DC?? I fi couldn't get my hands on a PS2 and i was desperate for a games machine maybe,
thought having a DVD was a silly idea??? whyz Dc's getting dvd's sold with them in bargains now?? to be like sony "yes" You think the DVD's will be better then the sony ones???? right!
What you said abouy Get a dreamcast instead and duh duh duh many games with a DVD player has been posted over and over again in this forum and it's getting boring now!
Also what makes you think that if we get the PS2 we wont et the X-box i'm sure it's not illegal to own to great consoles at once? is it?

Personlly, if I was that desperate for a DVD player I'd spend 150 quid on the player and forget the console.

Hear hear. I'm sure many here have more than one console in their collection. Just get on and play the games you wanna play.
Consoles being disposable consumer electronic items ALL come AND go, VCS, PC Engine, Mega Drive, DC, PS1, PS2 and XBox have and will all be replaced.
It's all in the curve of the product lifecycle. After a sharp rise and level out, they all meet (without exception) that inevitable drop of the lifecycle curve. And publishers / investors identify and target those platforms that have the highest peak and longest mid-life forcast (Imagine the profile of a round hill with a flattened top, the left slope steeper than the right, that's rougly the shape of a lifecycle plot).
On this chart, XBox isn't even in the running yet, it's all based on forecasts. At the ECTS in London recruiters were hiring lemons (all manner of fruit indeed) if they even hinted they'd do Xbox programming. Walking around, if you had a badge marked "Programmer" it was like being asked to buy a "Big Issue" every 50 yards. "Ardvark Swift, would you like to sign up? Good rates for XBox team members".
At the end of the day, the youth market is attracted by image and buying into the lifestyle that image portrays. Now Sony's image is music, electronic consumer gadgets, guy things.
Microsoft have a serious image problem with the X-Box that they need to overcome. Microsoft represents the bad world of buisness, PCs, geeks and Bill Gates. It's not a problem Sony or Sega have.
Remember, betamax was better than VHS but the VHS format won out, this was attributed entirley to the availability of the software available for the medium (pornography was widly available on VHS and not on betamax, hence VHS players outsold betamax in the region of 20:1).
The technology may change, but human factors don't.
